Project Brief

REVIVE
As fashion design and merchandising majors studying in NYC for the Spring 2018 semester, our Fashion Image class was assigned a semester-long photoshoot group project. For this project, we had the opportunity to work and collaborate with the New York Film Academy (NYFA) students to create our own, personalized fashion photoshoot. The designs showcased within the shoot were made by a junior, fashion design major from the Kent State Fashion School, Miara Thomas. Within our renowned group, entitled “REVIVE,” we wanted to portray Miara’s garments in a fun and artistic way as her garments were primarily neutral colors with great designs, so we wanted to enhance and “revitalize” her mini collection.
Being that this class is somewhat unstructured and organic, the fashion students within REVIVE held the respective roles of stylist, production manager, and creative director. We made sure we all played our part so that the process would run efficiently. Working hands-on with NYFA students gave us a great collaborative experience to mend our skills together and ultimately create a powerful photoshoot. A challenge the group had to overcome was to incorporate every garment made by Miara in a cohesive way and give her collection a more casual and streetwear feel to fit our theme/mood.
As far as scouting the models, Maddy & Teloria found one of the models at a streetwear fashion show during NYFW FW18 by going up to her and asking for her contact information after the show. The other model was introduced to us by our NYFA instructor, whom he had formerly worked with. Scouting for the shoot location and reaching out to makeup and hair stylists was a tedious process, but we managed to successfully find exactly what we needed. The overall process for setting up and getting everything together for the shoot was a fun and unique experience for us, which made this class so much more valuable.
